About Nigel Mallet, La Jolla's finest Farmer's Insurance Agent

 

As a youngster growing up in scenic Truro, England, the county of Cornwall, I learned the nuts and bolts of business by helping out at the hardware store run by my family for 4 generations. My great-grandfather launched Mallett & Sons Ironmongers back in 1890.  I remember sitting at the dinner table while the family went over all the details of the business. My brother and I learned everything from customer service, to lending, to books, to designing plans for the future of the company.

I received my B.A. from in Finance from Middlesex University and was offered a position with Gillette of England upon graduation. I was placed at the post of Financial Accountant and while still in my 20's, was given the responsibility of handling all Gillette accounts in the western hemisphere.

As my professional career was taking off, I was also outstanding in another field - soccer .  I had been captain of the school soccer teams since I was 7, and a center forward in the semi-pros in England for several years.

I made the jump to the United States after visiting a college roommate who was working with Minolta business Systems in San Diego. I saw the beaches and the sun and I knew I wanted to move here. I was offered a sales position with Minolta and was soon honored as the company's No. 1  salesman in the nation. After a promotion to an executive position and a move to Boston, I realized I wanted to get back into the financial arena. I accepted an offer from PaineWebber and was soon hired away by Salomon Smith Barney, an offer that would return me to the sun, surf and soccer fields of San Diego where I proudly played for the San Diego Shamrocks.

I recently made the move to Farmer's Insurance Group, where I can use my decades of experience to help companies, families, and individuals make informed choices about their financial options. I have a passion for my role as an Insurance and Financial Services Agent. I grew up in a business family and saw first-hand how important it is to be educated about all your options. It gives me great satisfaction to learn what a business, a family, or an individual needs to be financially secure, and then point them in the right direction to realize and to protect their financial goals.

And back on the field, I now sponsor the Manchester Carmel Valley Soccer Club, an off-shot of the Manchester United Soccer Club I have supported since I was a young player. I have passed my coaching license and will be qualified to start working with young athletes this year.
